Hadn't heard of these guys until they had this release on Openoutlets. They grabbed my attention from the very first track. Each song being vastly different from the last, all uniquely tied to it's own theme. The sound design alone, made this purchase an easy decision.
Favorite track: The Apprentice.
You can't expect an everyday piece of music to translate this aspect. Character behaviour in music is purely metaphoric and can be reinterpreted in any way, from person to person this reinterpretation method is different.
We welcome Poztman & Purfakt with one of the most promising releases of our label so far: Persona.
This is a masterfully-crafted modern approach to character description and development in music: with dynamics, sound design, transitions, recognisable musical themes, genre/tempo/time signature changes, it's a pack of tracks worth of listening and taking time to analyse all the details with which it comes.
Persona EP consists of five "identities": The Apprentice, The Crow-Eater, The Devourer, The Skinshifter and The Builder. With an incredible artwork by Atelier Aimbé, made for each individual track, all of these "characters" feel fully developed, united by these combinations of audio and visual arts, describing the "personas" through such method. From the beginning to the end, all the steps of the characters in this "play" introduce us to the... experience, having that "experimental / free form" vibe that is still being attached to a certain movement, idea, building up from slow impulses of rhythm that grow up exponentially once all the needed sounds hit in, as intended. With an addition of an incredible atmosphere, created by all the instruments and methods of composition, this work is a solid narrative structure, a great inspiration, and a good starting point for what is to come next.
Noisia style neurofunk meets glitch hop, IDM, jazz, world, ambient, elevator music, and who knows what else. This amalgam of genres has no right to work, but KOAN Sound somehow pulled it off, creating perhaps one of the most innovative albums ever. Every song is fantastic, either being a banger, atmospheric, emotive, or all three at once. furrybeans
